About Low Gear
Collectively, the members have been playing in the Dallas local scene for over 15 years. These aren’t boys; they’re men that have seen the industry change right in front of their eyes. They’ve hung on and never given up, always finding ways to mold their sound to what the fans want while remaining solid in their roots of heavy metal.
JACOB PIERCE – Low Gear vocals – Jacob gives fans what they want: a rock show. He connects with the crowd and commands the stage. Drawing comparisons between Corey Taylor and Jonathan Davis, Jacob has been the front man for bands for the last 10 years in New Orleans and then in Dallas. Jacob’s past projects have included: INVAIN, The Brothers Pierce, Faint the Fiction and As Above/So Below.
ROY “ROJO” JOHNSON – Low Gear guitar – This kind of player doesn’t come around often. With a style built of legends, RoJo uses his love of metal to bring a style that moves a crowd, but doesn’t get lost in translation. Not only a player, but a true fan of music and what feeds people’s soul, RoJo has a sound that is distinguishable and current. As one of the founders of Low Gear, RoJo finally has a band of brothers that compliment his writing in ways that accentuate the song and the other players. RoJo’s past projects have included: Crankfish and Die Section.
HEATH SHULTS – Low Gear guitar – Heath has an unbeatable command of his instrument. High energy, focused on precision, and a damn good player, Heath brings an insatiable talent to the band. A self-taught guitar virtuoso, Heath’s past projects have included: Crankfish, Die Section and Ground Level.
ALEX FOWLER – Low Gear bass – Having taught himself to play the guitar to heavy metal, at the age of 9, Alex brings his love of metal guitar over to the dark side and uses that to compose heavy bass lines for Low Gear. Intense and driven on stage, Alex entertains by stellar tones that wrap the Low Gear sound up in a nice package. Alex’s past projects have included: Pistol Whippin’ Ike and Sak.
MIKE MOYA – Low Gear drums – Moya is a master. Describing his style in words might be unjust and if his drums could type, there would be dents in the paper. An experienced drummer with 22 years behind the kit, Moya is exceptional at hard, heavy beats that drive the song into a listener’s head. Mikes past projects have included: Crankfish and Plastic Tongue
You know that album that people put in when they want to throw up the horns and just rock out? This is that music. It is about the fan escaping for 45 minutes or so and having a good time while they watch the show. It’s about the Low Gear product being strong enough to compete and dominate in a market of mediocrity. Low Gear music is THAT music that people will pick to bring their rock. Low Gear music is powered by 5 seasoned musicians that don’t take themselves too seriously and want to succeed. Believing in the power of music is easy to talk about – but contributing to it is harder. Low Gear does contribute and sets the bar for the current metal scene to reach.
