Best known as the former bassist of the '80s avant-rock group Stump, multi-instrumentalist Kev Hopper pursued a solo career after that band went their separate ways in 1988. Albums such as Stolen Jewels and Spoombung continued Stump's experimental tendencies, mixing haunting melodies with whimsical arrangements and electronic flourishes. Hopper also made a name for himself as an artist; two of his paintings were featured on the covers of the High Llamas' Santa Barbara and Hawaii. Head Llama Sean O'Hagan was one of the guests featured on Hopper's third solo album Whispering Foils, which was released in mid-2000 by Drag City.
