The name derives from the Greek word Kaloma caloma (rope), in this case the inspiration is originated from a phrase that is shouted while fishing for swordfish, "give caloma" means "by the time the rope", swordfish injured perish.
The kind of music is purely ethno-folk and aims to research and re-evaluate the culture and traditions of Sicily, with the use of acoustic instruments (guitar, mandolin), accordion and percussion.
The first compositions were born on the island of Vulcano (ME), where the three were to work here will originate from the songs that will be part of the promo tracks Acoustic.
In December 1996 participate in Christmas celebrations in Messina, going to play in the villages and churches, the ancient "Novenas nineteenth-century" strongly ordered after 50 years by Luciano Tringali (passionate scholar of Sicilian folk traditions) earning great critical acclaim.

From January to May 1997, the group performed in many places of the province Messina and surroundings.
In July 1997 they shoulder in a show of Nino Frassica held in Giardini Naxos (ME), being appreciated by critics and audiences.
In 'August 1997 Kaloma play in many Sicilian squares, including Milazzo, Barcelona, ??Messina, Palermo and Gela and at the same time participating in the soundtrack of the film "Tra scilla e cariddi" with the song "U VIAGGIU."
From March 1998 onwards, the group undergoes changes, both elements, both musical direction. The sound can become 'robust with the introduction of drums and bass, and the music is expanding into new experiments ethnic.
From May 1998 to May 1999 Kaloma retreat in the recording studio for the self-production and recording of the first CD printed in 300 copies and contains nine previously unreleased tracks "EL VINO estaba ALGO AGUADO."
In May 1999, the group is in promotional tour in Northern Italy, France, and also participates in the annual festival that takes place in BERGOLO (CN), along with the likes of Nour Eddine, Nursery Arac, Taken and others, the "CANTE DE MAGG."

In January 2010 rank second all'Emergent Music Contest in 2010 and won the critics' prize.
In April 2010 are selected at the regional finals of the "1 Maggio tutto l'anno"
In May 2010 the Kaloma are selected to play in Castel Raniero to the great annual festival of folk music "MUSICA nelle aie" and found a lot of success.
June 2010 are selected for the final of the contest COUS COUS FACTOR for the event COUS COUS FESTIVAL, taking part with the song "La ballata del Tunisino" to the compilation of the Cous Cous Festival 2010 along with five other emerging groups in Sicily, and well-known names in the music Italian and international.
October 2010 to participate in the final "bIELLA FESTIVAL" with the song "CERCO."
The song ranks fifth in the final standings, and is appreciated by critics and audiences.
August 2011, they opened the Mario Incudine Rometta Marea, and participate in the contest Kaulonia Tarantella Festival Future.
May 2012 opened the concert at the historic PFM in the promenade of Milazzo, selected by Franco Mussida.
July 2012 they won the contest "Fuori dalle Cantine", winning the production of a CD by the label STUDIO NEW WAVE.
August 2012 released the minicd Kaos containing the songs I try and seawater in digital distribution on ITUNES, AMAZON, DEEZER.
