Jonathan Lewis was born in November 1974, in Melbourne, Australia. An interest in music was cultivated early, and he studied both classical piano and 'cello.

While at high school Lewis wrote a number of articles for his school magazine, and was Editor of the magazine in his final year of high school.

Abandoning his interests in music and writing after graduating in 1992, Lewis studied for an Engineering degree in Metallurgy from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology between 1993 and 1996, and began working for a base metals mining company in early 1997, moving to Brisbane, Queensland in the process.

Although maintaining his interest in music in the intervening years, writing for the All Music Guide is his first venture into professional music writing. ~ Jonathan Lewis
