About John Brown

At the age of eight, as a choir member at his father’s church, Detroit’s John Brown began to develop his talent as a singer. Later work with theater groups provided him with opportunities to sing the National Anthem at local sporting events and perform for former U.S. President Bill Clinton. After Brown and future Day26 member Robert Curry heard about Wyclef Jean's desire to sign a group to his J-affiliated boutique label, the two corralled another pair of singers to form E2G, who signed with Jean, but the R&B group split prior to lift-off. Through Myspace, Brown later connected with the independent Mophillin label and recorded his first solo single, “Imma Love You Right.” The song, produced by Bei Maejor (Trey Songz, Ginuwine) and Larry Nix (R. Kelly, Pitbull), was released in 2010, became a hit on Detroit’s WJLB, and landed the singer a deal with Universal Republic. Brown’s debut album was prepped for release later that year. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
