About Irie Sol
With half of its members living in Eau Claire and the other half in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Irie Sol is a border-crossing band both geographically and musically, exemplified by their journeying to an unlikely place to record a hip hop/worldbeat/reggae album--Nashville. The analog recording LIVE IN NASHVILLE will be released digitally. The tunes were recorded at Nashville's Welcome to 1979 Studio by Chris Mara (who's produced artists from Keane to Juvenile to the Gin Blossoms) and will be released on LIVE IN '79 (his all analog, all live label).
Band members hail from Birmingham, Alabama; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; London, England; Kingston, Jamaica; Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota; New York City; Providence, Rhode Island; and Eau Claire, WI. With African, English, French, German, Haitian, Indian, Iranian, Irish, Native American, Scandinavian, and Sicilian ancestries, Irie Sol is, in this sense, world ROOTS music, retracing routes of regional sounds with elements of hip hop, reggae, and funk.
Wha gwan, MTV? Are ya feelin' Irie?
