About International Contemporary Ensemble

(March 2007) The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) is a contemporary classical music ensemble of thirty chamber musicians, including strings, woodwinds, piano, percussion, voice and composers, which enables great flexibility of programming. ICE performs works scored for ensembles from solos and duos to chamber orchestra, as well as multi-media works, works utilizing extended techniques and non-western instruments, and improvisatory and electro-acoustic works. With ongoing residencies at New York University, New York, Columbia College, Chicago, and Conservatorio de las Rosas, Morelia, Mexico, the group is considered to be one of the most important and effective proponents of new concert music in the United States. They are unique among U.S.-based new music ensembles for championing and performing music by European, Latin American, and Asian composers rarely performed in the U.S., such as Ignacio Baca Lobera, Dai Fujikura, and Philippe Manoury. Members of the ensemble include: flutists Eric Lamb and Claire Chase, who also serves as the ICE's executive director; percussionists Nathan Davis and David Schotzko, who also serves as ICE's artistic director; violinists David Bowlin, Jennifer Curtis, Marc Rovetti and Alison Zlotow; violists Maiya Papach, and Wendy Richman; cellists Kivie Cahn-Lipman and Katinka Kleijn; bassist Randall Zigler; pianists Phyllis Chen, Jacob Greenberg, William McDaniel, Spencer Myer, and Cory Smythe; harpists Bridget Kibbey and Nuiko Wadden; guitarist Daniel Lippel; saxophonist David Reminick; oboist Nick Masterson; clarinetists Campbell MacDonald and Joshua Rubin; trumpeters Peter Evans and Gareth Flowers; and vocalists Peter Tantsits and Tony Arnold. Composers Huang Ruo and Du Yun were among the ensemble's founders. Program decisions are vetted by a Roundtable Committee consisting of ensemble members David Bowlin, Kivie Cahn-Lipman, Bridget Kibbey, Wendy Richman, Joshua Rubin, Cory Smythe, and Du Yun.
