About Graeme Taylor

Graeme Taylor was the third member of the folk trio that evolved into the folk-rock/prog rock band Gryphon -- he came in initially through his friendship with co-founder Richard Harvey. Born in 1954, he was the youngest of the original core group, only 17 when they started out. But he shared arranger credit with Harvey and Brian Gulland when they became a formal band, and when they went electric his guitar sound proved quite distinctive without losing its classical and folk orientations.

Taylor was the first of the core members to leave the band, following Raindance (1975), and he doesn't seem to have suffered a bit from the decision. He moved on immediately to work with Ashley Hutchings and the Albion Band, which he co-founded, as well as doing sessions with Linda Thompson in the 1980s and 1990s and working with the John Kirkpatrick Band.

In more recent years, he has worked once again with Thompson as well as composing for the National Theatre and participating on various cast albums and stage productions (including a 2003-2004 version of Cole Porter's Anything Goes), and playing behind the likes of Paul Scofield, Julie Covington, et al. He has worked with one of the later versions of Fairport Convention and extensively with John Tams, and done some acting as well. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
