Being the early proponent of Marathi cinema, Govindrao Sadashiv Tembe's contribution to Indian music lies in his popularizing harmonium as an elite modern Indian music instrument. Belonging to the renowned Jaipur Gharana, Tembe's first achievement was the music for Marathi play Manapaman. His biggest success was music for the first Marathi talkie Ayodhyecha Raja. In 1916, he formed his theatrical group, Shivraj Natak Mandali, and went on to compose music for films like Jalti Nishani and Mayamacchindra. ~ Bhasker Gupta, Rovi
