Girl's Day (Hangul: 걸스데이) is a four-member South Korean girl group under the management of Dream Tea Entertainment, a subsidiary of KOSDAQ-listed agency Wellmade Star M. The group consists of four members whose names are Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri. Their biggest hits includes their recent Something, Darling, Twinkle Twinkle, Expectation, and Female President. Their fan-clubs include "Daisy" or, commonly stylised "Dai5y", which they endorse.
Dream Tea started Girl's Day promotions before their debut with the creation of an official blog, YouTube channel, and Twitter accounts for the group and each member. A forum made by fans was also recognized by the company as their official international forum. The group also released dance flash mobs before their debut on the commercial and entertainment districts of Seoul, gaining much interest.
2010: Debut, line-up change, Nothing Lasts Forever:
On July 7, the group released their first MV, "Tilt My Head", and two days later their debut mini-album "Girl's Day Party 1".
Only two months after their debut, on September 12, it was announced through the group's official Twitter that members Ji Sun and Ji In left the group and two new members would be added to the group: "Two of our precious members of Girl's Day are to be replaced. They are Ji Sun and Ji In. Ji Sun will study music more to find her own character in music, as she wanted. And Ji In is attracted in acting so she will concentrate on acting career." Two days later, on September 14, the two new members were announced, Yura and Hyeri. On October 29, the new line-up released the group's first digital single, "Girl's Day Party 2". On October 30 the MV for their lead track, "Nothing Lasts Forever" was released.
In December 2010, Girl's Day got their first TV-show along with boyband U-KISS. The show, "We Are Dating", is a spinoff of the hit TV-show We Got Married and paired three members of each group on the first season.
2011: Twinkle Twinkle, Everyday, Don't Let Your Eyes Wander:
Rumors of Girls' Day's comeback started when member Yura had a new hair color for one live performance. On March 4, 2011, the girls greeted their Japanese fans for the first time in which they announced the release of their 2nd single on March 17. Concept photos for the groups comeback was release on March 13, and 15 respectively while the MV Teaser for "Twinkle Twinkle" was released on March 13 and currently has over 8 million hits YouTube. The full music video was released 3 days after on March 16 and currently has over 8 million views on YouTube. The group made their comeback on M! Countdown on March 17, 2011, they also made their comeback in Music Bank, Music Core, and Inkigayo the same week. The track proved to be popular as it landed on the No.1 spot upon its release, also the song has entered among the Top 10 in M!Countdown and Music Bank respectively plus entering Inkigayo's Take 7. With this song, the group enjoyed immense popularity among soldiers as well. Promotions for "Twinkle Twinkle" ended on May 15, 2011.
On May 17, 2011, Girl's Day had their first oversea concert in Taiwan with U-KISS and Super Junior M. The concert I Love You Taiwan - We are friends Concert (사랑해(莎朗嘿) 台灣! WE ARE FRIENDS 演唱會) was held by Korea Tourism Organization Taipei, Taiwan Office in Taipei International Convention Center.
On July 3, 2011, Girl's Day announced their comeback with their second mini-album, Everyday, to be promoted with the title song "Hug Me Once". The teaser for the music video was uploaded on that same day. The full music video was released on July 6, 2011 along with the mini album. Along with the title song "Hug Me Once", the album contains a new track called "Young Love", two previous digital singles "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Twinkle Twinkle", and an instrumental version of "Hug Me Once". Girl's Day are scheduled to begin their comeback performances on the July 8 episode of Music Bank. Promotions for "Hug me Once" ended on August 6, 2011.
On August 29, 2011, it was announced that prior to the groups' Japanese advancement they would release a new single entitled "Girls' Day Party # 4" with "Don't Let Your Eyes Wander" as the title track. Concept photos for the song was released on August 30 while the song was revealed to the public on September 1. Despite the lack of proper promotions the song itself proved to be quite popular as it reached the no. 1 spot in Bugs and had similarly high-rankings on other music sites as well.
2012: Everyday 2, Jihae's withdrawal, Don't Forget Me:
Girl's Day released their 3rd mini album, Everyday 2, on April 17, 2012. The album was announced on April 10, along with the album cover. It includes the new title track "Oh! My God" along "Don't Let Your Eyes Wander", from their previous single, along with three new songs.
On October 17, Dream Tea revealed that Jihae had left the group due to personal reasons.
The remaining four members of Girl's Day made their comeback on October 26 with the song "Don't Forget Me" from their fifth digital single, Girl's Day Party #5. The music video for the song was simultaneously released and features a drama-like story with Girl's Day member Hyeri. On this same day, Girl's Day made their first performance of the song on Music Bank.
On December 31, 2012, it was revealed by one of the representatives for the group that they are aimed to release their first full-length album in February 2013 with the group staying with four members. It was also revealed that Dream Tea Entertainment, the group's agency, is considering adding one of their trainees as a new member of the group in the future.
2013: Expectation, Female President:
Girl's Day released the single 'White Day' on the 20th of February. On March 7, details about the album were revealed. The album is called Expectation and will be released on March 14, coinciding with the White Day. The member Yura will be the female lead star in the music video of the title track, also titled "Expectation". Girl's Day are planning to make a comeback on the 24th of June with their 1st Repackaged album for Expectation. On June 20, 2013, a teaser was released for their single called "Female President".
Girl's day re-released the album "Expectation" as "Female President" on June 24. Girl's Day won their first number one rank in a Music Program since their debut. They won against Sistar and Lee Seung-chul on SBS Inkigayo's July 7 episode, but postponement of the broadcast due to the Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash live report meant that they did not have a chance to receive the trophy. They won with 8,887 points surpassing other contenders' points even if one of them will receive the full points of real-time text poll votes. On July 27, It was announced that Girl's Day will be concluding their promotions for "Female President" and will be having a follow-up track entitled "Please Tell Me".
On October 10, Girl's Day released the song "Let's Go", written and composed by Sojin, for young adults to get encouraged and to not worry about the future (since their final exams were near).
2014-present: Everyday 3, Everyday 4, Darling:
On December 20, Dream Tea announced that the group will release their third mini-album on January 3, 2014. About the concept, Dream Tea said: ″Compared to Girl's Day's previous songs "Expectation" and "Female President", they will show a more mature femininity ... All of the members have come of age now so the range of song and dance they can do have broadened, and so the members will each fully showcase their womanly charms″. On December 27, a photo teaser revealed that the mini-album is titled Everyday 3, with the track "Something", produced by Duble Sidekick, being the promotional track. On December 30, teaser photos for the disco-inspired title track, "Something", were posted on their Facebook page and a teaser video was released. On January 3, the MV for 'Something' was released and within one day it reached a million views. "Something" also became their highest-charting single, peaking at #2 in KPOP Hot 100, #1 in online sites such as Bugs and #2 in Gaon Chart also. It also became #1 at Monthly National Digital Singles Ranking in Gaon Chart (January 1 - January 31). The song was also successful as it stayed in the Top 10 in KPOP Hot 100 for 8 weeks. On January 30, it was revealed on a Twitter account that they will end Something promotions on February 16 and release a new mini-album in May. They were the first artist in 2014 to stay in the Top 10 in KPOP Hot 100 for 8 weeks with title song Something.
On April 6 they had a fan meeting in Japan and revealed that they will be preparing to make a comeback in June. It was revealed that Girl's Day would be ditching the sexy concept for their June comeback. On May 4 it was announced that their June comeback was postponed to July to increase the quality of the album. On May 14, Kiscover discovery platform opened a dedicated streaming discovery channel for Girl's Day.
On June 9, 2014, it was revealed that Girl's Day will be having a comeback on July 14 with a special summer song. Their label revealed, "Girl's Day is planning to have a comeback with a special season song by the producer team Duble Sidekick. This album was specially planned for Girl's Day's 4th anniversary on July 9th."
The label added, "The album will be a mini album. It's not only a 4th anniversary album, but also a summer special album, and it'll be full of bright, lively music. Girl's Day is also preparing a special event with this album release so they can give the love back to their fans."
A DreamT Entertainment rep stated on the 19th of June, "Girl's Day will hold their first solo concert since their debut called 'Summer Party' at AX-Korea, Gwangjingu on July 13 at 4 PM KST." "At this concert, you will be able to see another transformation of Girl's Day who have been continuously showing opposite charms and transformations... All of the proceeds from the concert will also be donated to 'Plan Korea' which Girl's Day serve as ambassadors for and will be used for girls from developing countries."
On the 7th of July, Girl's Day posted on their official Twitter and Facebook the teaser images of Yura and Minah and on Twitter they announced that they would post the teaser video of the title track Darling the day of the anniversary of Girl's Day (9th of July) at 12 pm. On the 8th of July they posted the teaser pic of Sojin & Hyeri.
