About Frank Cheatham Jr.
Frank Cheatham Jr. has successfully balanced his spiritual commitment and his love and mastery of music. A veteran composer, producer, and session keyboardist/bassist, he released his debut album, Basic Keys to Life, in 2001. Cheatham continues to serve as director of music at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. Music has played an important role throughout Cheatham's life. At the age of three, he received a toy organ as a Christmas present. A couple of years later, he advanced to the Hammond B3 organ that his father had purchased for the family home. After studying classical piano for seven years and learning to play saxophone in school, Cheatham received a bass guitar as a gift from his parents. Teaching himself to play along with songs on the radio, he soon mastered the four-stringed instrument. At the age of 16, he bought a Hofner precision bass. Although he continued to play piano in church and with local bands, Cheatham put the bass down for several years. He began to play it again after hearing the innovative bass playing of Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, and Marcus Miller. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
