Erica Ashley has dedicated her life to music and at 14 that might sound a bit unremarkable. What is remarkable is that in only a handful of years she has taught herself to play piano and has developed a voice that people are already comparing to Kelly Clarkson and other contemporary artists twice her age. Katie O'Halloran of EMI / I think I love It remarked, "We thought we were listening to an unreleased Katy Perry song!"
It’s no surprise that Erica was drawn to music. Her father and uncles were all professional musicians at one time or another so it was just a matter of time. This family connection lead to her first studio experience only weeks after her 13th birthday. She recorded a series of reference vocals and her voice was responsible for placements and track selections with well known publishers and music industry professionals, including Jake McKim of Birch Street Music who worked side by side with Beyonce Knowles.
A year later the family came together again when Erica signed with her uncle's artist development agency. She dove into it head first and in a matter of weeks a sound started to emerge. What came out of those sessions is nothing short of amazing and her first single “Where Are We Now?” is proof of that. Passion, maturity, depth, and range - that’s a tall order for anyone but almost unheard of from such a young artist. Take a moment and listen for yourself. 14 years old and the possibilities are endless.
