The inventive, acoustic guitar-wielding folksinger Emma-Lee Moss was born in Hong Kong and later moved with her family to England, where she became a fixture of London's burgeoning anti-folk scene. The young singer/songwriter collaborated with Lightspeed Champion, Fyfe Dangerfield, and Jeremy Warmsley, and her audience grew as she shared the stage with the likes of Martha Wainwright, Tilly and the Wall, and Kimya Dawson. Emmy the Great debut single, "Secret Circus," was released in 2006, followed in 2007 by the My Bad EP. Meanwhile, she was joined by Euan Hinshelwood and expanded her reach by touring the festival circuit, bringing her articulate folk songs to audiences at the Green Man Festival, Latitude Festival, and Glastonbury. "We Almost Had a Baby," a single from her debut studio album arrived in November 2008, followed several months later by the 2009 release of First Love.
In 2011, fueled by the unfortunate last-minute breakdown of an engagement, Moss wrote and recorded her second album Virtue, with Hinshelwood once again having a huge hand in the album's creation. Produced by Gareth Jones, the follow-up to First Love was a step up in quality both sonically and thematically, while Moss's newly blossoming relationship with Ash frontman Tim Wheeler resulted in the festive This Is Christmas album. ~ James Christopher Monger & Daniel Clancy, Rovi
