Originally from Essex, just outside of London, Dave Thomas Junior always knew he wanted to be a musician. Even as a little boy, he was inseparable from his toy piano. Dave started his first band at age 14, and by the time he was 18, he had moved to London and was making as much music as possible, sharing a flat with a now-famous rapper from Wales.
Thomas released his first solo album The Prize in 2010. "Originally The Prize was going to be a concept album that traced a relationship through the passages of time. But as we all know, relationships are more complicated than that," says Thomas. The album was recorded in New York City, London and Glasgow where many late nights turned into early mornings -- it was Thomas' personal labor of love.
Today Thomas lives in Glasgow, Scotland (where he sees a bagpipe at least once per week) and is currently working on his second album Embers. "Embers is a bit grander lyrically than The Prize, I think. The world is changing so fast, it's incredible really. I wanted to try to capture some of that wider world with this album," says Thomas of his forthcoming 2012 release.
When Thomas is not recording his own music, he produces, mixes and writes for other artists, including Echo & The Bunnymen, Casey Shea, Toby Lightman, and upcoming Chicago band Purple Apple.
Thomas' songs have been featured on such television shows as Teen Mom, 16 & Pregnant, Rookie Blue, The Nine Lives of Chloe King and Brothers and Sisters. "We Are The Stars Tonight" is the theme song for the new MTV show Caged.
