Charles Newman, accomplished musician, composer, engineer and producer calls New York City home. Originally hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Newman moved to New York City after graduating from Berklee College of Music with a degree in music synthesis and technology.
Newman formed the band PLEASE in 1990 and released three CDs, Noreally Thanks (1994), The Electric Living Room (1995) and Sentimental Watermelon (1997), enjoying its greatest success after the song “Here it Comes Again” appeared on the A&M soundtrack to the 1995 New Regency film Empire Records.
Newman has gone on to produce and write with many notable artists over the years out of Cottage Sounds studios (Magnetic Fields, Jon Derosa, Alicia Witt, The Black Kids, AM, Kris Gruen, Soko, Gospel Music, Tim Meyers, Dylan Trees, The Davenports) and has composed music for television, film, documentaries and ads (TV and online) under indie label, Mother West.
Newman's musical taste is diverse and spans several decades; 1970's - The Beatles, Floyd, YES, 1980's - Sting, Peter Gabriel, 1990's - Faith No More, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 2000's indie pop including Mojave 3, Low, Alt Country including Ryan Adams, Patty Griffin and grassroots talents like Hank Williams and Emmylou Harris.
