Blue Kid's particular brand of so-honest-it's-embarrassing piano-rock grew out of the solo writings of Lydia Benecke, the band’s lead singer & songwriter. Lydia’s music draws heavily on her own daydreams and adventures to yield up an eclectic combination of pop, rock and cabaret. The band’s fans have compared their music stylistically to Fiona Apple and Rufus Wainwright, and Lydia’s vocals to those of Adele and Sara Bareilles. In 2011, Blue Kid won Flavorpill's 2011 National A Band Apart Competition, for which Stoli Vodka gave them a featured CMJ Showcase at (le) Poisson Rouge. Following this, the band went on to record their primarily fan-funded album Upright, Love, which was released in November 2012. In December 2012, Blue Kid was selected to open for Nellie McKay. Blue Kid is excited to play Ars Nova's ANT Fest, the Brandywine Festival and the Utica Music & Arts Fest in 2013.
