Kenneth Huddleston (born October 06, 1974), better known by his stage name AP.9, is an American rapper, best known for his solo-music and his affiliation with Bay Area-based hip hop group Mob Figaz. Raised in Oakland, California, AP.9 had a rough life growing up, which inspires much of his musical lyrics. In 2002, he was shot 12 times, which subsequently put him into a coma for a month-and-a-half. He first received widespread recognition in 1999 for the Mob Figaz album C-Bo's Mob Figaz, which went Gold and reached #63 on Billboards Top R&B Albums chart. Since then, he released several albums as a member of Mob Figaz, as well as over 23 solo albums and numerous other collaboration albums. In late 2012 and early 2013, he attracted national attention in the tabloid media for an alleged affair that occurred between him and Nicole "Coco Marie" Austin.
AP.9 was born in Oakland, California. At a young age, he witnessed the murder of both his mother and brother. AP.9 then lived in and out of foster homes until he was adopted. He supported himself growing up by hustling in the streets and selling drugs, and eventually served time in prison.
In 1995, AP.9 moved to nearby Pittsburg, California where he met fellow rappers The Jacka, Husalah, Fed-X, and Rydah J. Klyde. In 1997, the five rappers were discovered by hip-hop artist and entrepreneur C-Bo and, with his help, formed the rap group Mob Figaz.
In 1999, Mob Figaz released their first studio album, titled C-Bo's Mob Figaz. The album was released on C-Bo's record label West Coast Mafia Records. The album entered the Billboard hip hop chart making it to #63 and spending 5 weeks in the charts and so far is their only album to chart. The album sold over 160,000 units. Over time it has reached certified gold status. AP.9 went on to record three more albums as a member of Mob Figaz.
Following the initial fame that accompanied the Mob Figaz albums, AP.9 established a solid solo-career, racking up a lengthy list of at least 23 solo albums, in addition to collaborations and guest appearances on other artists' records. AP.9 has appeared in songs with artists Aaron Carter, E-40, Method Man, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, D-Buck, Gonzoe, Husalah, The Jacka, Mac Dre, Yukmouth, Scoob Nitty, Fed-Ex, and C-Bo. AP.9 works mostly for the independent record label City Hal Records.
In 2002, AP.9 attended the BET Awards in Los Angeles. After the award show, several armed men attempted to rob him and he was shot at and struck by 12 bullets. He was rushed to the hospital and was in a coma for the first month-and-a-half. AP.9 was hospitalized for six-months following the shooting, and at one point weighed only 98 pounds as a result of the treatment and being bedridden.
The shooting had a substantial impact on AP.9's life. During an interview in which he was discussing the incident, AP.9 stated that (the shooting) "made me really appreciate life, because tomorrow's not promised to you" and after stating that he believes in karma, alluded to his belief that the shooting may have been karma for similar acts he participated in when he was younger. "I don't question God", AP.9 went on to say, "so I take it as a lesson learned and try to be a better person".
In December, 2012, reports began to surface that AP.9 had a physical relationship with Nicole "Coco Marie" Austin, wife of rapper Ice-T, swimsuit model, and star of E! reality television show Ice Loves Coco.
