Anthony Green (born April, 15 1982) is a musician from Holland, PA. He attended La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, PA. He is currently the lead singer of Circa Survive and maintains a solo career. He was previously in the bands Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, Audience of One, Jeer at Rome, High and Driving, and Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer. Career edit: Audience of One edit: Anthony Green's first band formed in 1997 while he was in high school with classmate and musician Tommy Dougherty (Junction 232). The band originally had Tommy on guitar and Anthony on bass and vocals. Eventually, they recruited drummer Evan Madden. Anthony wanted to name the band 'Saosin', but Tommy and Evan didn't like it. Before settling on the "Audience of One" name, they played a few shows under the name "Handsome Pete" in 1998 and apparently one show under the name "The Bill Bixby Experience". Due to problems with Evan's availability to practice and play shows, they kicked him out of the band. Anthony and Tommy switched bass and guitar duties. Anthony met drummer J.D. Foster (Makeshift/Yellow 5) at Days Away's first show in summer of 1998. J.D. tried out and musically they clicked right away. The band recorded and released an LP entitled I Remember When This All Meant Something (1999). It was released on Break Even Records. Tommy Doughery was kicked out of the band due to conflicts with his lacrosse practices and games. Tom Trimble (A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies) took over on bass guitar. Tommy Dougherty's departure was short-lived; he was back in the band only after two shows without him. In mid-2000, Greg Itzen (Carousel/Like Lions) was welcomed into the band as a second guitar player. As a four piece, they recorded a four song demo EP in the summer of 2000. That fall, two of the members went off to college and one enlisted in the military. Audience of One was deemed 'on hiatus'. Jeer at Rome edit: On April 12-13, 2000, Anthony recorded vocals on a four song demo EP for a hardcore/metal project that was recorded at Skylight Studio. The band was composed of Anthony Green (vocals), Steve Mensick (guitar), Mike Lepone (guitar), Chris Mensick (bass) and Luke Carmen (drums) The demo was released on compact disc, though it is unknown how many were made. They played a handful of shows during the summer of 2000, but dissolved soon afterward. Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolof_The_Rock_%26_Roll_Destroyer Anthony sang vocals on six songs on Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer's self-titled first album. The recordings took place mostly in 2001 and were released in early 2002. At that time, the band consisted of Rachel Minton (vocals), Anthony Green (vocals), Vince Ratti (guitar and keyboards), Bob Bonocore (vocals and bass) and Rick Delello (drums). Anthony was kicked out of the band in early 2002 due to his drug usage. They still remain good friends. Two years later, Green contributed vocals to the Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer song "This Was All A Bad Idea" off of their album The Popsicle EP 2004. High & Driving edit: Anthony recorded a four-song EP in 2002 at Vince Ratti's Skylight Studio in Pennsylvania. He recorded most the instruments himself except for drums and keyboards. Tim Arnold of the band Days Away supplied the drums and Vince Ratti tracked the keyboard parts. There are indications that a few friends of Green, Ratti and Arnold had the recordings in 2002 and 2003. But for the general public, the recording was passed around the internet since early 2004 and ended up being released officially on the deluxe release of Avalon in August 2008. Saosin edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saosin The original lineup of Saosin consisted of Anthony Green (vocals), Beau Burchell (guitar), Justin Shekoski (guitar), Zach Kennedy (bass) and Pat McGrath (drums). Their first album, an EP, consisting of 5 songs, was recorded in February and March 2003. Pat McGrath was a studio musician just hired to play on the album. Alex Rodriguez was to assume the role of drummer, but he had obligations playing drums for the band Open Hand at the time. Chris Warner filled in on drums during early rehearsals. Zach Kennedy quit the band due to personal reasons. Chris Sorenson took the spot as bassist. Danny King replaced Chris Warner as drummer around the same time. On June 17, the band released the EP Translating the Name. It was an immediate success and was immensely popular on online forums and music sites. Preorders of the album came with a bonus CD containing two acoustic songs. During the summer tour in 2003, Alex Rodriguez finally took over as their drummer. Translating The Name (2003) has sold an estimated 62,000 copies. Green quit Saosin in mid-February 2004. Three studio albums were recorded during their time together, Tiger and the Duke (2004), Lover, the Lord Has Left Us... (2006) and The Ocean and the Sun (2008). They played four shows in August 2006 of which one was recorded for a live DVD and CD entitled, We Must Become the Change We Want to See (2007). Circa Survive edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circa_Survive Immediately after quitting Saosin Green founded Philadelphia-based Circa Survive, which signed with Equal Vision Records, this new project changing his musical vision from the post-hardcore ("screamo") scene to indie/experimental. Within a year, they had released a limited edition tour EP, The Inuit Sessions, and a full-length album, Juturna. They released their second album, On Letting Go, in May 2007. They parted with Equal Vision in August 2008. Their third album, Blue Sky Noise, was released in April 2010 on Atlantic Records. In November 2010, they released an EP called Appendage also on Atlantic Records. Their self-produced fourth album, Violent Waves, was released on August 28, 2012. Anthony Green (solo work) edit: Holiday shows edit: In December 2005, Green embarked on a four-date east coast mini solo tour, opening for Fred Mascherino (ex Taking Back Sunday, as The Color Fred). The set included some Circa Survive songs and some of his own. Green also played two acoustic holiday shows on the east coast in December 2006. Green played three acoustic shows towards the end of December 2007. At these shows in 2007 he played a few songs with Good Old War, then known as 'KDT', for the first time live, sparking the idea of having them as his backing band. Avalon was recorded at The Big House in Avalon, NJ between late February and early March 2008. Keith Goodwin, Dan Schwartz and Tim Arnold of the band Good Old War played various instruments on the album. Two music videos were shot before the album was released. "Dear Child (I've Been Dying To Reach You)" was shot on May 31, 2008 and released on July 23, 2008. "She Loves Me So" was shot in late July 2008 and released on December 15, 2008. Avalon was released on August 5, 2008, peaking at #44 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Anthony named the album after being inspired by his father. "my dad said you should call it avalon-" Avalon Tour edit: During the 2008 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, he played two daytime shows (including the Alternative Press party) as part of a five-date mini tour. For the Austin dates, he was accompanied by the band Good Old War, then known as 'Castles'. In August and September 2008, he embarked on his first full fledged U.S. solo tour. Dubbed the 'I Still Feel Like A Child' tour, Good Old War again served as his backing band, but also played their own set as openers of the tour. His backing band for this tour also included Brendan Ekstrom and Nick Beard of Circa Survive. The main support act was Person L, the solo project of fellow Pennsylvania native Kenny Vasoli, singer of The Starting Line. Jackie Haenn (2008) edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon_(Anthony_Green_album) In November 2008, Green released a two song EP entitled, Jackie Haenn to help fund his cousin-in-law's medical transport fees after she was injured in a car accident on Halloween. The songs are the B-sides recorded during the Avalon recording session. Avalon Remixes (2008) edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon_(Anthony_Green_album) While Green was on the Avalon tour with 3/5ths of Circa Survive, Colin Frangicetto worked on his remixes of Avalon in Doylestown, PA. He used instrumentation and vocals from the original Avalon recording session but also recorded many new instruments and parts himself. The remix album was released digitally on December 5, 2008. It was released as part of a preorder bundle for Avalon's first vinyl pressing. The physical compact disc of the remix album wasn't available until around January 20, 2009 when the vinyl bundles shipped. Beautiful December (2011) edit: Green released a live in-studio acoustic EP called Beautiful December on the last day of his 25 days of Christmas calendar on December 25, 2011. The five-song EP was recorded in November 2011 at Atlantic Records' private studio, Studio 1290. Three B-sides from this acoustic session were released in January and February 2012. Beautiful Things (2012) edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beautiful_Things_(album) Green announced the title of his second solo album as Beautiful Things in September 2009 while he and the rest of Circa Survive were in Toronto, Canada recording Blue Sky Noise. The album was mainly recorded in early January 2011 at The Big House in Avalon, NJ by producer Jason Cupp. Once again the members of Good Old War served as his backup band and helped shape the feel of the songs much more than for Avalon. The album title comes from the lyrics of a Good Old War song entitled "Lullaby" that Green adopted as his own. Anthony's version of "Lullaby" became the closing track of the album. The album was mixed at least seven times over the course of 2011. Green announced the release date on November 15, 2011. Beautiful Things was released on January 17, 2012, peaking at #27 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. A music video for the song "Get Yours While You Can" was shot in late November 2011 and released on January 31, 2012. This album also included many of his friends and idols such as Dave Davison of Maps and Atlases, Nate Ruess of Fun, Chino Moreno of Deftones, and Ida Maria to add some variety to his music. Anthony Green describes "Beautiful Things as, "The whole album is sort of about people and the victories you have with them. When I decided on the title, I wasn't thinking of a concrete thing." Beautiful Things Tour (1st Leg) edit: From mid-January to mid-February 2012, Green with Good Old War as his backing band toured the U.S. with support from The Dear Hunter. Beautiful Spring (2012) edit: On June 5, 2012, Green released a live EP recorded on February 14 and 15, 2012 during the first leg of the tour. The album was available for free and also available to download for a donation of any amount. The free version of the album consists of five live tracks with Good Old War as his backing band. The donation version contains the five live tracks plus an a cappella demo of Green singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' with his son James. The live songs were mixed by Casey Crescenzo. Beautiful Things Tour (2nd Leg) edit: The second leg of the tour comprised ten shows in June 2012. Good Old War was not available for this leg of the tour because they were supporting their new record Come Back As Rain by touring with The Counting Crows. The Dear Hunter opened and also served as Green's backing band, which, for fans of The Dear Hunter, was the most amazing night of their lives. Beautiful Summer Unofficial Title (2013) ? edit: On June 30, 2012 Green recorded the show at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. He was backed by The Dear Hunter. He has not revealed an official title for this live album and has not mentioned when he intends to release it. Hurricane Sandy Benefit EP (2012) edit: On November 13, 2012 this album was released as a digital download with proceeds going to the Red Cross to benefit people whose communities and homes were destroyed by the superstorm known as Hurricane Sandy. The released contained 'When I'm On Pills' remixed by Steve Clifford and 'Gets Yours While You Can' remixed by Psychic Babble (Colin Frangicetto). The release also contained a Circa Survive B-Side from their Violent Waves album, a Psychic Babble song that almost became a Circa Survive song and an old acoustic demo by Brendan Ekstrom. Young Legs (2013) edit: Main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Legs_(album) During the first leg of the 'Beautiful Things' tour in January 2012, Green said that he has a handful of song ideas written on guitar and also that he has been using Nano Studio on his iPad to demo songs and beats. Charity Work edit: Keep A Breast edit: Anthony and Circa Survive have been involved with The Keep A Breast Foundation since 2006. They are a global, youth-focused, nonprofit breast cancer organization. Their mission is to eradicate breast cancer for future generations. They provide support programs for young people impacted by cancer and educate about prevention, early detection, and cancer-causing toxins in our everyday environment. In 2012, Anthony Green was dubbed an 'Ambassador' for The Keep A Breast Foundation and accompanied him on the first leg of his 'Beautiful Things Tour'. Invisible Children edit: Anthony Green is also involved with the non-profit organization Invisible Children. The goal of Invisible Children is to bring about awareness to the Lord's Resistance Army(LRA) and end the abuse and abductions of children to be used as soldiers in central Africa. Anthony Green, along with several other musicians, have helped raise money through music and help spread awareness. There have also been several benefit concerts in which the proceeds go towards the Invisible Children group. On April 17, 2008 Circa Survive released a B-Side from the 'On Letting Go' recording sessions called '1,000 Witnesses' with proceeds going towards Invisible Children. In addition, Anthony Green has also donated autographed instruments to be auctioned off by Invisible Children. Save Siren Records edit: On June 30, 2008 Circa Survive released another B-Side from the 'On Letting Go' recording sessions entitled "The Most Dangerous Commercials" as a digital download. The proceeds of the release went to benefit a record store in Doylestown, PA called 'Siren Records'. They were in danger of being evicted and losing all the merchandise that they had in the store. They needed $20,000 to pay the landlord, get their merchandise out of the building and to rent a new store front to continue the business. They must've reached their goal because Siren Records is still open. Colin and Anthony from Circa Survive have been going to Siren Records for years and it is a sentimental place for them. Anthony once even changed the lyrics of a cover song he plays live by the band Good Old War, called 'Coney Island' to 'Siren Records'. Bob Meadows, singer of the band 'A Life Once Lost' is a part owner of the record store and has been a friend to Colin and Anthony since high school. Jackie Haenn EP edit: In November 2008, Green released a two song EP entitled, Jackie Haenn to help fund his cousin-in-law's medical and transportation fees after she was injured in a car accident on Halloween. She fully recovered. The songs are the B-sides recorded during the Avalon recording session. For Trent edit: On January 5, 2010 Circa Survive released a 7" vinyl containing the two b-sides from the On Letting Go recording sessions on clear vinyl with a hand-stamped label. All proceeds from this 7" went to benefit the recovery of Trent Jacobi, a lighting technician who was injured in Australia on October 30, 2009 while on tour with Fear Before The March Of Flames, now simply know as Fear Before. He suffered a 25 foot fall through a roof onto a concrete floor. His injuries were listed as fractures in his pelvis, multiple severe breaks in his left arm, three broken ribs and a punctured lung. Eventually, he made a full recovery. Japan Earthquake and Tsunami edit: On March 17, 2011 Circa Survive announced that they would be auctioning off six vinyl test pressings of their albums on eBay to help the people that were wounded in the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011. The band wrote, "The purchase of the record is accompanied by a hand signed letter of appreciation from us. The sale of this item is based solely for the purpose of raising money to support Doctors Without Borders who are currently helping with the aftermath of the tragic events which occurred in Japan last week. All profits, 100%, will go to this cause (less selling fees and pay pal fees). We would like to show our support for those abroad dedicating their time and effort to helping those affected by truly unfortunate circumstances. We'd like to come together with our fans to show support for the recovery efforts in Japan. All bids are much appreciated." Over $1700 was raised (before auction & shipping fees). Also on April 6, 2011 Circa Survive announced an auction of three hand written lyric sheets of songs off of Blue Sky Noise. The $1175 raised from these auctions was also donated to Doctors Without Borders. Hurricane Sandy Benefit EP edit: After Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of New Jersey and New York in late October 2012, various members of Circa Survive contributed songs toward a digital release called "Hurricane Sandy Benefit EP". Proceeds went to the Red Cross. The digital release contained a Circa Survive B-Side from the 'Violent Waves' recording session called 'Battle, My Love', a Psychic Babble demo made by Colin Frangicetto that almost became a Circa Survive song called 'Baby Steps', a remix by Steve Clifford of an Anthony Green song 'When I'm on Pills', a remix by Psychic Babble of the Anthony Green song 'Get Yours While You Can' and an instrumental acoustic demo of a song by Brendan Ekstrom entitled 'April'. The art that accompanied the album was painted by Esao Andrews. Laughing At My Nightmare edit: On February 22, 2013 Anthony Green announced that he will be working with Laughing At My Nightmare, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting messages of positivity and humor while facing life's challenges and to raise money for muscular dystrophy research.
