Africa, formerly known as Princess Gift was born in Nigeria, West Africa. Raised by her grandparents until her teen years, she then migrated to the United States reuniting with her biological mother in Cambria Heights, Queens, NY. She attended Andrew Jackson High School graduating in the upper percentile of her class and ready to embrace the authentic artist within.
Africa then attended the City University of NY as a Business Management major and eventually returned to school as a Film and Media Art major. Her natural gift in the arts and her ability to incorporate her own Afrocentric vibe into Hip Hop, brought her to the attention of Hip Hop Legends Foxy Brown and Doug E. Fresh and others. Under their tutelage, Africa gained insight on the workings of the Entertainment Industry from both a business and artistic perspective. Her voice can be heard on several Hip Hop and R&B tracks.
In addition to her musical performances, Africa began participating in plays, films, video, and other performances. The expansion of her performances also enhanced her vision giving birth to a new Africa and leading to the formation of her own entertainment company, KUKU Entertainment in March of 2011. Africa has defined KUKU Entertainment as an independent and versatile media company with the ability to create new revenue streams through various multimedia nationally and internationally. The components of which include, music, film, video, television, live performance and dance. Her business goal is to establish synergistic partnerships in entertainment through KUKU Entertainment that will not only promote her own talent and ability but that of other up and coming artists and performers for viewing and listening audiences globally.
Africa understands that the journey in life is one that is about achieving balance both emotionally, spiritually, and physically and that inspiration in our world is found through servant leadership. She has known hardship and struggle and learned that wisdom from both ancestors and positive role models is a valuable tool along with perseverance. As both an entrepreneur and an entertainer, Africa believes that in her lifetime she will be able to live beyond her natural years by providing content in both the movies people watch, documentaries, television and music people listen and the books that people read. Also known by the name, The First Lady, Africa plans to embark on ventures that will help to define her generation as well as the combined cultures of Africa and the Diaspora in a way that will not only make her dreams come true, but, the aspirations of others. Citing one of her own philosophical ideals, " You can curse me, hate me, slap me, but you can never stop me from beaming" ---Africa
